As the deadline approaches for the EC to rule on the proposed Universal/EMI merger, independent music companies across Europe today urged the Commission to block Universal’s endeavour to gain more power in the music market.
IMPALA objects to EC approval of Universal/EMI merger

European independent music companies express concern over the EC’s approval of the Universal/EMI merger, announced today.
The independents welcome the EC’s conclusion that Universal’s power is a problem across the whole market, both digital and physical, including access to media. The Commission’s insistence on tough remedies, despite strong positioning by Universal, is also applauded, as well as its clear rejection of arguments that piracy and larger online players are restraining forces.
IMPALA statement on the sale of EMI Publishing to Sony
Following the announcement this weekend of the sale of EMI Publishing by CitiGroup to an investment group led by Sony, IMPALA confirmed today that it would oppose the sale, referring to its statements last week, 8th November and 11th November.
IMPALA expects sale of EMI to Universal to be blocked outright
Following the announcement by Vivendi of the purchase of EMI recording by Universal, IMPALA confirmed it would oppose the sale before the regulators and expects them to move quickly to block the deal.
MUSIC FINLAND RY YHDISTÄÄ MUSEXIN JA FIMICIN
Musiikkialan järjestöt ovat päättäneet koota Music Export Finland Association ry:n (MUSEX) ja Suomalaisen musiikin tiedotuskeskus Fimic ry:n (Fimic) toiminnot yhden organisaation alle. Uuden yhdistyksen tarkoituksena on laaja-alaisesti ja tavoitteellisesti edistää suomalaisen musiikin tunnettuutta, suomalaisen elävän musiikin, suomalaisten tallenteiden ja nuottien saatavuutta ja käyttöä Suomessa ja ulkomailla sekä musiikkivientiä.
